Baker McKenzie’s Global Customs Practice invites you to join us for a follow up webinar on “Trump and Tariffs: Section 232 Tariff Announcement, Reciprocal & Retaliatory Tariffs and More”
This one-hour webinar will take place Thursday, 20 February 2025 at 10:00 CST / 11:00 EST / 17:00 CET.
On February 10th President Trump announced that 25% tariffs will be imposed on all steel and aluminum products imported into the US from all countries, including Canada, Mexico, the EU and UK, which were previously subject to exclusion. These tariffs are due to come into effect on 12 March 2025. In response, the EU’s President von der Leyen posted a statement in which she stated that she deeply regrets the US decision to impose tariffs on EU steel and aluminum exports and that the unjustified tariffs will not go unanswered. They will trigger firm and proportionate measures.
In tandem, on Thursday February 13th President Trump signed a memo that sets out a process for imposing reciprocal tariffs on a country by country basis – taking particular exception to value added taxes levied on sales of all good by European countries. In response, the EU has warned of immediate retaliation should these reciprocal tariffs be implemented.
In this webinar, a global panel of our senior customs and tax lawyers will discuss:
- Immediate impacts on companies with respect to President Trump’s Section 232 Tariff announcement;
- The latest developments on Trump’s proposed reciprocal tariffs and retaliatory measures expected from the EU, UK, Canada and Asia; and
- Actions that businesses should take now in the face of these developments to help mitigate the impact of the tariffs and navigate the customs landscape in North America and globally.
Our panelists will also provide practical experience on best practices to diminish operational disruption in response to trade disruption as well as insights into what we can expect from the Trump administration moving forward.
