The Japanese government launched the webpage named “Bonded Portal” on the Customs website, dedicated to providing information on the bonded system. This portal includes procedural guidance for businesses seeking approval for bonded areas, as well as various information and materials, including the guidelines for the bonded warehouse permit applications. Additionally, this portal has the subpage for soliciting opinions from the public to understand the issues and needs related to the bonded system and its operation.

These initiatives are part of the Japanese government’s efforts to utilize the characteristics of bonded areas, which allow for the storage, processing, and exhibition of foreign goods while deferring the collection of customs duties, in various fields to stimulate Japan’s economic revitalization. Furthermore, the Japanese government is working to raise awareness of the bonded system among businesses and uncover its needs, while also reviewing the system based on these needs.

Useful information on the utilization of bonded areas in Japan will be introduced in this blog as it becomes available.
